Probably my least favorite that I've read so far from Nevill. It wasn't horrible, but I found myself struggling to build a mental image of quite a few scenes, often just finding what I had envisioned kinda comical rather than fear-inducing. I had this experience mainly with Gracey's chapters, it felt like they were written somewhat childish in tone, to accentuate her perspective, but I found it just kind of frustrating. Alongside this, the word choices get fairly odd and repetitive, "whitey" and "illumine" for example.
The main character Tom was just an unbearably neglectful, spiteful, and frankly dumb character that I found hard to care about. At multiple points this guy mucks everything up or avoids even trying to help the situation. Overall, Cunning Folk was somewhat enjoyable at times, but at others plodded along for me, barely keeping my interest along the way.
