Every student of modern socialism must take the time to read this book because it uniquely explains how the Cuban Revolution is impacting on the coming American socialist revolution. It is very clear to anyone who like Barnes the former head of the Fair Play to Cuba Committee and the 1960s student movement would agree that the liberation of Cuba by Fidel Castro and the other leaders of the revolution inspired us to take action against the U.S. War in Vietnam, Black Liberation, Women;s Liberation and Chicano Liberation movements.
Barnes is unique because he believes the Cuban revolution has impacted on the consciousness of industrial workers. There is no doubt American workers have been impacted and their awareness is limited by the available media covering the post-revolution events. Barnes is right that many young working people stuck in the realities of low paying jobs are finding the realities of socialism in Cuba very inviting.
This is an excellent book and well worth the price and Barnes enlightening words are well worth the read and the time. It is important to read a book by someone like Barnes since his lifelong dedication to socialism and the movement for a workers republic in the U.S. is remarkable in these days and times.
