Seller's Description:
Very good, good. 258, illus., tape and sticker residue at bottom of DJ spine. Limited edition published by Fortkamp for Nukewatch. The author was a muckraking reporter who became editor of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists in the 1970's. In 1979, he was co-defendant in the famous H-bomb case.
Sam Day's Crossing the Line should be read by anybody puzzling out the realities of late 20th c. US history. Even in remote areas like Idaho, a state of less than a million population, there was extensive, articulate and occasionally effective resistance to Establishment politics. Sam Day's Intermountain Observer was a magnet for the envoronmental/peace/social justice movement. With Sam's sympathetic attention, Rev. Willie Ludlow ran for US Congress on a peace ticket forcing the Viet Nam war issue onto the state-wide agenda, Sam published material about Utah's Sheep Valley weapons tests, and chronicled efforts to prevent the Army Corps of Englieers from damming up every wild river in Idaho. People like Sam encouraged a responsive Activist audience, even during the Johnson and Nixon administrations, outside the Beltway, between New York and Los Angeles.
