My first exposure to this author, I found this to be a suspenseful mystery. It has believable, likeable characters who have make mistakes that affect other people's lives. A woman on the run from a hitman, another woman trying to find her to confess a secret, a smooth politician who has charmed the nation, and even a hitman who who feel sorry for because his family is threatened unless he finishes the job. You feel the fear and stress of Carla on the run, not sure who she can trust. For the first half of the book, I thought I knew who the bad guy was, but I was wrong. Her diary from her teenage years shows the development of the incident that led to her current situation. A satisfactory ending.
