The SSAT/ISEE is taken by 64,607 students per year. There are two levels of SSAT's (Secondary School Admissions Test): a lower level test for grades 5-7, and an upper level test for grade 8 and above. Similarly, the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) is broken down into two such levels. Like the SAT, the SSAT/ISEE tests students on reading comprehension, analogies, sentence completion, synonyms and math skills. The SSAT was created in 1957 and is today required by about 500 schools. The ISEE is much newer, and has recently become the test of choice for member schools of the Independent Schools Association of New York City. An increasing number of schools are accepting ISEE scores as an alternative to the SSAT. The book includes: -- A complete overview of the SSAT/ISEE -- Practice drills for the math and verbal sections, based on actual tests -- Four complete sample tests -- Strategies to find right answers by eliminating wrong ones, recognize traps that trick most students, and tips on how and when to guessThe book explains how the SSAT and the ISEE are scored very differently, and how this difference affects test-taking strategy. Students need to prepare for these exams, as they are as difficult to a grade-schooler as the SAT is to a high school student.
