I owned this book years ago. I allowed a friend to borrow it and never got it back though he phones me from New Zealand now and again quoting bits from it. I loved the clarity and style of the writing but I really got it for the FANTASTIC pictures!!

Perfect read. Embodies the TV series. The comments on the pre-socratic thinkers and the transmission of Greek ideas was great.

Sagan's Documentary on Paper
If you have enjoyed or heard of Carl Sagan's Cosmos, the television series premiering in the 1980's (1980 to be precise), it sparked a new way of seeing the cosmos in a very accessible and beautiful way.
This book is absolutely gorgeous in its writing style. He has been revered to be an author who cannot pen a dull sentence. This brilliance is intermittent within the pictures depicting the amazing gorgeous view of all the universe of which we see.
This book, being written in the late 1970's and a bit in 1980, shows a dated view of astronomy, yet still is very informative and entertaining. It speaks of the history, of which never changes unless it is up to interpretation.
If you pick up this book, you'll immerse yourself in his passion for the universe and knowledge.
IF you are attempting to increase your intellectual merit and knowledge of this world, buy this book and dive deep into the majesty of everything.
