Die Ursachen f???r diesen Bedeutungszuwachs sind vielschichtig. St???ndig wachsende und damit m???chtiger werdende Unternehmen sind in der Lage in zunehmendem Ma???e die ???konomische, ???kologische und soziale Situation einer Gesellschaft zu beeinflussen. Damit einher gehen gestiegene Erwartungen, aber auch Bef???rchtungen seitens der Gesellschaft gegen???ber den Unternehmen. In den letzten Jahren haben sich Medienberichte ???ber menschenunw???rdige Arbeitsbedingungen, Korruption, Kinderarbeit oder umweltsch???dliches Verhalten der Unternehmen geh???uft. Solche Unternehmensskandale, wie der Fall Enron, haben gezeigt, wie sensibel die Gesellschaft auf unverantwortlich handelnde Unternehmen reagieren kann. Daher ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass die gesellschaftliche Verantwortung von Unter-nehmen, bekannt unter dem Schlagwort Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), zunehmend in den Fokus der ???ffentlichen Aufmerksamkeit r???ckt.
