b&w engravings. Poor. Book 16mo, vii, 270pp, Red embossed cloth with gold lettering and decorations. Text block splitting. title continues, "for the use of Children and Young Persons." Covers are very worn and soiled-spine is missing small triangular piece of cloth, book edges are worn with loss of cloth along bottom corners. Gold decorations with title faded but still legible. Textblock splitting. Bookplate on front paste-down from Misses Ormond's Seminary, Glasgow, dated 1867. Full page engravings on verso (Conversation the Fourth, title page (Early Butterfly) and a few throughout the text. The book consists of ten conversations, written for the edification of children in poetry and natural science. Smith, an influential British poet and novelist during the second half of the 18th Century was also known for her books written for children. Conversations was first published in 1804. Despite the many flaws of this volume, it is an early printing of a hard to find book. Many of her books have recently been reprinted in soft-cover, but apparently not this title POOR/--VERY ROUGH CONDITION-READING COPY ONLY.
