On this point, holy writ pronounces no judgment; for while it blames many other actions of Solomon, this is recorded without either praise or censure. Thus much, however, is certain, that most of the reasons which I have adduced above, as dissuasive of foreign commerce, were by Solomon's time done away; and besides, I must still remark, that the bustle and temptations of trade are by no means peculiarly favourable to the interests of an infant colony.
