This was the most difficult Dick Francis book to read because of what was happening to the horses. It is the only time a Francis book has made me cry. However, it was up to par with his best; very well told and well written. I would recommend it to anyone, but with a warning to horse lovers.

For Francis Fans
Another mystery in the Dick Francis genre. Yes, they're all similar, but if you like them you like them.... and you'll like this one. His stories are tight, well written, with a good, easy style, and they take their heroes over some exciting hurdles towards a surprising finish. This one does not disappoint. One of the series featuring Sid Halley, the ex-jockey turned private investigator, who has an amazing aptitude for getting himself into very uncomfortable circumstances - and, fortunately, out of them again - the book soon grips the reader and it can be difficult to put down. A great holiday read!
