Michel Bayan is a sound researcher who studies the effects of sounds and music on the human body; he has created a series of Collage music albums for the purpose of relaxation; be prepared: the albums are full musical experiences, not light spiritual fair. Collage IV contains an interesting mix of selections from electronic wizards Jarre, Kitaro, and Vangelis, Spanish masters, and Vivaldi. The compilation and most arrangements are by Michel Bayan, with Mark Wood pitching in on the masterful recreations of the electronic music. Jarre's "Equinox Part II," the musical epitome of major mind angst (yet strangely beautiful) begins the experience; those who are stressed will probably relate. After some nature sounds, the wondrous fantasy world of Kitaro's "Wind God" unfolds--quite a treat--followed by Kitaro's "Mirage." The delicate "La Petit Fille de la Mar" by Vangelis is charming, a music box waltz beneath soothing ocean waves. Another delicate dance piece by Enrique Granados is cast in the Vangelis style--charming with its distant chorus--and his "L'Oriental" dance for solo guitar (Oren Fader) is mouthwatering. This segues to two other breathtaking pieces for solo guitar: Fernando Sor's "Study in e minor" and the familiar "Recuerdoes de la Alhambra" by Francisco Tarrega. The album ends with the infinitely bouncy "Concerto in D major" by Vivaldi, with harpsichord and live chamber orchestra. Nature sounds--surf, brook, thunder, sailboat--form bridges between the pieces. A delightful experience that ends with spring birdsongs. ~ Carol Wright, Rovi
