If the name of the series is taken literally the idea seems to be that consumers of gin and vermouth may alternately want to relax or be tickled. Cantor, whose approach to entertainment was always to some extent rooted in vaudeville, would be a sensible choice for those who appreciate reassuring traditional pop tunes with periodic bursts of old-fashioned humor. His 28 selections, most of which last less than three minutes, accurately represent his repertoire during the years 1928-1949. Note that two titles, "Mandy" and "Little Curly Hair in a High Chair," were almost exactly contemporaneous with versions by Fats Waller & His Rhythm. Several numbers rightly epitomize Cantor's persona and delivery, especially "Hungry Women," "Makin' Whoopee," and "How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm?," as well as "Eddie Cantor's Automobile Song," "The Old Piano Roll Blues," and "I Faw Down An' Go Boom!"
