I have served many congregations in Cameroon and now, for the last 24 years, I have been in the First Congregational Church of Machiasport. What a contrast ! Cameroonian Churches are full of life and movements. No one sings without moving to the rhythm of hands clapping, guitars, tam- tams, stick pounding, and of noises of anything one would put his hand on; the body moving, some dancing when singing. Everywhere, joy fills the air when people come together to praise God or during visiting each other. Regularly, religious services last between three and five hours; people don't even have the desire to go to the bathroom. Pastors are assisted by all kind of lay leaders who are in charge of different aspects of the worship service. Yes, ministers preach sermons; from elders to deacons, presidents of associations and different groups leaders would do the rest. Where people fill comfortable, joyful, relaxed and at home is where they enjoy being. Christianity in New England has lost the flavor we find in many other Christian younger societies in the South of the United States, in Central and South America, and in Africa. Would little jokes in Church or around other Christians when they gather together, in the beginning of services, during the preaching and sometimes during announcements bring life in our religious services ? I truly believe so. For that reason, I made an effort to compile some clean and humoristic stories also called jokes in order to produce this little book they are regrouped in 20 sections. My hope is that these will be used by ministers and everyone who would like to bring life, laughter and smile in the faces of many while we are waiting the coming of our Lord who will bring more joy to those who believe in him.
