World of Scoots
Here is a book for lovers and owners of motor scooters from their classic era. Mick Walker is a prolific writer on the subject of motorcycles with over a hundred titles to his name. This volume is truly encyclopaedic on the subject of scooters listing over 250 manufacturers. Scooters from around the world are described from their origins in post WWII Europe to their eventual spread around the globe. The scooter was made to fill a need for cheap transport immediately after the conflict of 1939-1945. Some firms such as Piaggio ? the maker of Vespa ? had a proud aeronautical background and turned their empty war factories into two wheeled machines of peace. So slowly the machines of industry of the ruined countries of Europe cranked up their economies. Eventually by the mid sixties scooters were in decline with employment and prosperity on the rise scooterists became motorists. I really enjoyed this book ? highly recommended.
