This is a story of a remarkable lady. Claire Guest was certain that dogs could 'sniff out' Cancer. She and a few stalwarts set about proving it! Skilled training and intensive testing proved beyond doubt that dogs can detect cancer and other life threatening diseases. By 2014 her charity Medical Detection Dogs has placed more than 50 Assistance Dogs with clients warning them of oncoming attacks from Diabetes, Narcolepsy or Addisonian crisis. They have just trained their first dog to protect its owner from severe Nut Allergy. Medical Assistance Dogs greatly reduce the need for paramedic call outs and emergency hospital admission but it may be their work in Cancer Detection that is perhaps the most startling. Daisy - a fox red Labrador has conducted over 6,000 tests on human urine samples and has correctly diagnosed more than 500 as containing cancer. Her accuracy measured at 93% is not only amazing but opens the door for early low-cost detection of the disease. Daisy also alerted Claire to her own deep undiagnosed breast cancer that if left undetected would have been life threatening. *** These are the facts but this book is also about Claire Guest herself and tells the story of a happy childhood marred by severe bullying at school, leading through to University and her fascinating experiences viewing mice and training Tess her Rat. It was at this stage that Ruffles her first dog entered her life. Claire was to go on and train many hundreds of dogs including Hearing Dogs, and Gundogs and many of them are featured in these pages including - Dill Dog Brain of Britain The ups and downs of fortune and events flow through the book to the eventual acceptance of the work of this passionate dog lover to the Royal Patronage of the charity she has formed. A book recommended for everyone
