But, the siblings' rise to fame was accompanied by a slide into addiction. By the end of the 1980s, Arnie in particular was fully ensconced in a cocaine and alcohol paranoia much of the time. That was why Jim was able to excuse his 1991 murder of his own brother as "an intervention gone wrong."
