This is one of the best books to come by on this topic in awhile. It contains much verifiable data and real-life examples. I found it a decade after it was published and almost thought he was talking about today's Christianity. One of the terms that Hunter uses is "Apostolic Church." It is his way of saying that the "priesthood of believers" is alive and well despite traditional models that dot the landscape. It is not that Hunter tells us the Gospel message should be changed, but he is telling us that it is the presentation of the unchangeable message that needs revision. As the Apostle Paul was willing to change so that he could by any means save some, so are whole churches changing for the same reason. This turns a church outward to its "missional" call. Some portions of the book are reminiscent of the flavor of Robert E. Webber's "Journey to Jesus" and other writings. This one book is well worth the effort to obtain, read, and think.
