Not illustrated. 1922 Excerpt: ...caused by non payment of premium when due, were urged for the adoption of an extension system, by which the member, after lapse, should be covered for the full amount of his policy as long as the reserve value would continue it in force. "It was found impossible to resolve these differences of opinion, each equally tenable, and each supported by cogent reasons, in favor of the one or the other plan, and the managers of this company have therefore concluded to adopt both systems, permitting the member himself to decide which is the better adapted to his needs. If he desires the advantages of the paid-up system, he can express his preference; if not, the extension will be granted without notice." The question of incontestability was also considered and forms of policies were modified by the insertion of the following clause, namely: "Should three years' premiums upon this policy be paid... the only conditions which shall be binding upon the insured are that he shall pay the premiums at the time and place and in the manner herein stipulated, and that the restrictions of the company as to residence, travel, occupation or employment, crime and self-destruction shall be observed; that in all other respects after the expiration of the said three years, except for fraud, the liability of the said company under this policy shall not be disputed." Early in 1884 the company was under examination by the Insurance Department of Massachusetts, and the report was entirely satisfactory to the Department, the public and the members of the company. The risk upon a single life was advanced to 320,000 on ages 30 to 50 inclusive, and during the year the company was admitted to the States of Kentucky and Colorado.
