This collection of over 200 old photographs and postcards provides a unique and fascinating insight into the recent history of everyday life in Christchurch. Some of the outlying villages, historically connected with the town, including Mudeford, Highcliffe and Walkford, Hinton, Burton and Winkton, are also featured. The photographs, which come from a variety of local sources, are enhanced by carefully researched captions which draw on the knowledge of other local historians and residents and also the now sadly defunct local newspaper, the Christchurch Times. We relive and experience events and times never addressed before in pictorial form. Particular focus is given to the town's experiences in two world wars, the ever-changing appearance of the streets and buildings, and also to events such as the notable visits of the then future King Edward VII and the Kaiser. This book will evoke memories for many and serve as a nostalgic record for all those who love and know this town well.
