I could not put this book down. One might expect a dark tale like this from Dickens, but even he would be staggered. Not only is the book a true life experience, but it happened NOT in the Dark Ages, or Middle Ages, or even during the stogy, repressed Victorian era; it happened during our lifetimes! The cruelty, and domination by the despicable mores of society, and the pitiless attitude of many nuns is almost impossible to believe, but I have since read other books of the same theme, and am convinced it is authentic.
It is difficult to hear that many of the 'truths' we hold dear, are far from dear. A 'must read' for anyone who thinks that atrocities only happened in 'the old days'. Be ready to be stunned.
