Wonderful, fantastic worlds to explore! A book full of possibilities imagined to relieve boredom of ever-longer days of waiting in airports. What if we reallly could go "elsewhere" to spend our waiting time? The main character tells, in first person, of his adventures traveling to worlds or planes parallel to our world and meeting the delightful characters who populate them. From beaked bird-like people to royals fascinated with the life of commoners, the author develops believable imaginary folks with lessons to be learned. There is a strong thread of recogniton that the ways in which we try to change our world to make it faster and "better" may not necessarily be the best choices. As always Ursula LeGuin's stories stay with me and I have much to reflect on long after I have finished the book.
