Chanda's Wars puts a human face on the issues of warfare in Africa and the use of child soldiers. Before I read this book, I thought the use of child soldiers was bad -when I thought about it at all- but never went beyond that basic reaction. Reading Chanda's Wars has made me care. While some of the events and the ending seem unrealistic, there are other parts of the book where Chanda's problems are so real and heart wrenching I almost cried. Even the parts where my cynical side says "No way that would actually happen like that" are worth it because they give the story so much suspense and emotion. I definitely recommend this book.
