The classical training does show up in the elegance of his playing, but the reason to get this release is the charm of his wonderful and whimsical material. Cellobotomy has pieces that are reminiscent of bluegrass, R&B, swing, jazz, and Eastern European folk music, as well as some really exciting rock that happens to be played on the solo cello. The fact that this early album was mostly recorded in a home studio makes it even more remarkable.
