David Niven portrays the aging Bond, who atypically rejects the advances of a variety of women, and agrees to battle SMERSH's hold on the lavish Casino Royale only after organization head M is murdered. Also mixed up in the affair are several other secret agents, all named James Bond, played by everyone from Peter Sellers and Woody Allen to a chimpanzee. Despite a star-studded cast, a large production budget, and a hit score by Burt Bacharach, the film was universally panned as a muddled, overlong failure, with the occasional amusing sequence lost in the unintelligible surroundings. The participation of several screenwriters and five different directors, including John Huston, only adds to the confusion. Judd Blaise, Rovi

Yes. Everyone in a quirky twist of this spoofy telling are called James Bond from Woody Allen and Peter Sellers to Ursula Andress (and having been in the real series and now being a Bond, makes her the reigning Bond Girl) David Niven, Dahlia Lavi and Joanna Pettet. As an attempt to produce a psychedelic film, it fails but succeeds as a communal effort (another fad of the 60s). They used 5 Directors in this mix, all aces of the trade but it was Val Guest who pulled it together. The liberalities allowed in the making brought us some very successfully surreal sets, very much worth the watch as forced perspective is rampantly used, especially at the Mata Hari School of Dance and Espionage. Henry Mancini wrote the music that was performed by Herb Albert and the Tiajuana Brass, so it is also worth the listen.
The DVD features a B&W edition of the first presentation of Ian Fleming's work. It has as a special feature the 1954 CBS Climax! Theater three act play, scripted by Fleming himself based on his first published book, "Casino Royale". It stars Peter Lorre, Barry Nelson, Michael Pate and Linda Christian in the non spoofy view of the intrigue..
