Recommended by the one and only International Man, Doug Casey as a framework for independence. "In our society it's considered normal to work during the best years of our lives. You work when you're young, healthy and vital. You work when your mental powers are sharp, your mind inquisitive. You work when you still have a family at home and your kids need you the most. You give the best years of your life to a career and the last few to yourself. Are we crazy or what? You don't have to resign yourself to this fate. With this plan you can live the rest of your life without earning another dime. You let your equity sweat for you. And this book tells you how to do it now." A brilliant and practical plan for all who dream of retiring while they're young and healthy enough to enjoy it. Provides clear advice on how to overcome the personal, financial and psychological obstacles. Cashing in on the American Dream advocates a no-nonsense approach to determining just what you want in life. Do you want to be free of working for others? Then it might mean giving up your car and dinners out. But it doesn't have to mean giving up what you really love (or need). Insured post.
This is the book that inspired and assisted my escape from the rat race. Although the investment advice is no longer valid the remainder of the information is still right on target. If your life revolves around aquiring stuff to fulfill your ego it is not the book for you. If you truly want to say "Take this job and shove it!" then this is a good place to start. I would also recommend, highly, WORK LESS, PLAY MORE by Catlin. I dropped out at 50 with no regrets!
