I'm a fan of Mignon Eberhart, usually . . . her books give you the vintage flavor and some romance along with a pretty good mystery. But in Casa Madrone, she left her usual format and tried for an historical novel about San Francisco and the earthquake. The book had nothing of the charm of some of her others and I can't recommend it.
