I love Suiseki stones the same way I love creating bonsai. By some way they both bring peace to my soul. The difference is that we give shape to bonsai, but stones have been shaped by nature for millions and millions of years here in planet Earth. The hard part is finding that special stone that represents something in nature, in a small scale. But the difficulty of finding that special stone is what makes this art fun. Just like bonsai, suiseki stones are a small-scale representation of something big. And that is why they can go together in the same composition. Suiseki art, just like bonsai, was originated in Japan hundreds of years ago, and has refined with the years. I have been appreciating and collecting these stones now for several years. You may say that I am crazy, but I can sit in a chair for hours just looking at my collection. We can find them in the form of mountains, human figures, animals, waterfalls, islands, landscapes, lakes and more. And we find them in beaches, rivers and in rocky terrain. In this book I want to show you my entire suiseki stones collection, where I give names to some of them, and in some cases I try to explain what I see in them with a brief story. But you may see other things different than me because this is an appreciation art. Some of the suiseki compositions in this book may include bonsai. All stones presented in this book were found by me in the island of Puerto Rico, country where I live. A part of the title mentions the Caribbean because Puerto Rico is located at the Caribbean Sea. All images in this book are in black and white for artistic purposes. I just hope that you enjoy what you will see in this book and that it encourages you to start your own suiseki collection soon.
