He was 19 years old when in 1968 his country, then Czechoslovakia, was occupied by the allied troops under the Soviet leadership and Jim's life, together with many others, was trampled by the iron boot.Fourteen days was enough for Jim to understand that there was something rotten in this state, and on September 5, 1968 he left his homeland to start a new life in the Free World.He slipped out undercover through Hungary, Romania, and Yugoslavia and finally to Austria, from where on October 24, 1969 he immigrated to Canada, landing in Toronto.A new life begins here, a Czech emigrant's life of "Canadian Wandering".
