I originally ordered the book because I thought it might have insights into the Kickstarter project with the same subject name (See http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neolucida/neolucida-a-portable-camera-lucida-for-the-21st-ce ) Turned out the book had no insights into the device that is the subject of the Kickstarter project. However, since I had the book, I went ahead and read it. Surprisingly, I found myself underlining many thoughts by the author. It is a good book to get one thinking more deeply about "photography" and it's impact on our lives. Would definitely recommend the book.

ALMOST UNREADABLE
If you are a practical photographer seeking a 'new read' about photography in general my advice would be - Don't waste your time trying to read this book. I say 'trying' because Roland Barthes is a distinguished French PHILOSOPHER and he writes as you would expect an academic philosopher to write - gobbledegook. I stayed with a couple of hours before flinging it to the floor in dismay. If you have a copy give it to someone you don;t like.
