Anyone who walks thru any landscape large or small will eventually see a butterfly and marvel at its beauty. For the curious among us, we want to know its name, then we want to know how to keep them around our space. We eventually want to know what the caterpillar looks like so we won't inadvertently smush it. We will want to know what plants we could plant to feed the caterpillar so we can perhaps see it metamorphose into the gorgeous creature we saw. A field guide to identify all the stages, what plant the adult nectars upon and what plant hosts its larval stage or caterpillar is an absolute must to allow you to enjoy these creatures to the fullest. This guide is an excellent source for all you need to know about butterflies in the Houston and Southeast Texas area. However, many of the species are found in a wider range than just SE Texas and you will be able to identify a huge number of species even if you dont live in the area specifically covered by the book. The photos are well done and the descriptions are complete. I have used it for years to teach myself about these lovely insects and encourage them to use my yard as food and nursery.
