Letters are a most intimate form of sharing. These letters are collected from both sides of the Civil War lines and show the universal truths we all know and feel. The author has collected these to show that common ground and the common tragedy of the situation in which both sides were immersed. The letters are tender and personal, a glimpse into lives. Most curious to me, is the author's background which is in a totally different genre. I deeply commend her effort to make a statement about the universal tragedy of war.
