This memoir by Nijinska, sister of the famed Nijinsky, provides priceless historical and factual information about Diaghilev, the Ballets Russes, and a variety of dancers and life events as well as her own and her brother's experiences. Especially useful are details about the children's early life that should dispel various rumors bruited about by balletomanes. In these pages, the obvious jealousy even their most frequent colleagues and partners felt toward the pair are sadly evident, including tricks played on Nijinsky that resulted in injury. Nijinska herselt has never received the accolades she deserved but never sought. It is sobering to be made aware of the vicious cruelty suffered by creative geniuses at the hands of those who should be the most admiring and who benefited the most from them.
