We wur reg'lar ta'en up wi' him. An' one day Towse (that's my mate) says to ma, ' Nip, what thinks ta if we tak ta highwaymanin', it must be jolly.' I says, 'How can wa wi'out tools?' Ya knaw, that's what highwaymen call pistols, an' skeleton keys, an' sich like things as them. Bud Towse says, says he, ' We cud borrow Sam Jenkins's pistol, that what he hed t' last bonfire neet. An' we cud buy hawf a hounce of powder, an' a pen'orth of caps. An' I've some stoney taws ut 'ud dew fur bullets, an' if tha' get a stoney taw in 'em they'll want na more fur a bit.' Well, we mak's it up, an' we borrows Sam Jenkins's pistol; it 'ud gettan a bit rusty, bud we thowt it 'ud dew it duty. We bowt some powder an' caps, an' we picked about hawf a go off? I cud hev heerd it a clois-length off. Na, I'll tell tha what, Nip, it caps me if he isn't one of them things tha read about i' that book of thi granny's.' 'What things? a happarition?'
