The papers of Boswell, Samuel Johnson's Biographer, had long been considered lost until their discovery in the 20th century. The bulk were acquired by Yale University in 1949. This is one of the individual books published under the editorship of Frederick Pottle, then Sterling Professor of English, Yale University--The Yale Editions of The Private Papers of James Boswell. Bound in navy quarter cloth, gilt lettered over blue-green boards, small scrape to front panel along upper edge, some edges lightly rubbed, spine head and heel slightly scuffed, otherwise clean and unmarked. Rough cut. Binding tight, solid and square. Endpapers with map of Holland at the time of Boswell's visit, locating many of the places visited. Interior quite clean and completely unmarked, pages lightly ad evenly toned. Frontis: illustration of The Tower of the Cathedral and part of the Cathedral Square, Utrecht, 1746. 433 pages w/index. 9.5 x 6.5 inches. 1952, McGraw-Hill Boook Co., USA.
