Head for the Wild West - See Kentucky
Daniel Boone was a great frontiersman, an intrepid explorer and a really, really nice guy who killed only three Indians in his entire life (which ended in Missouri at the age of 86). On the other hand, he hated coonskin caps. Daniel Boone proves in fact to be every bit as intereting and adventuresome as the myth promised.
Robert Morgan has written what may well prove to be the definitive biograpny of Daniel Boone and it is well worth the read. It has obviously been well researched, but the wonderful thing is the reader doesn't get bogged down in all of the author's scholarly activities. There are references galore, but you would nevre know it unless you check out the notes in the back of the book, so they don't disturb your reading. However if something catches your interest, the reference is easy to find - I already have found two more books I want to read when I'm done with this one (hint: they're about pioneering women).
