The first of two CDs from Blue Note has vocals from 19 different male vocalists including Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby (collaborating on "Now You Has Jazz"), Nat King Cole, Charles Brown, a previously unreleased item from Mel Torme, Chet Baker, Mark Murphy, King Pleasure, Jon Hendricks, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett (how did he get here?) and Billy Eckstein. The emphasis is very much on the swing and bop stylists and, once one eliminates Lou Rawls's 1989 outing, all of the music is from 1942-62. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
