They're all over the place like a nest of pigs!
Black Books series one is brilliant! Written by Dylan Moran and Graeme Linehan.
Bernard (Dylan Moran) is the angry owner of Black Books. Manny (Bill Bailey) is the poor soul who works for Bernard and Fran (Tamsin Greig) is Bernards oldest (only) friend.
The world of Black Books consists of the three of them getting into all sorts of bizarre situations. The first episode introduces each of the characters and Manny is finally hired in episode 2.
The rest of the series basically consists of Bernard being mean to Manny and Fran sticking up for him.
The Blackout is my favorite episode from this series. Manny becomes a "copper" for the day and Bernard and Fran tell each other how they have ended up with weird injuries. It contains the line "no can do neckface" which just cracks me up.
The whole series is just so weird and funny. The fact that it is set in a bookshop is of very little consequence, but it does provide Bernard with the advantage of reading a book, ignoring Manny, smoking and drinking all at once.
Please buy it, its so funny!
