Seller's Description:
Small 4to. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. 238pp, (2pp). Extensive full-page illustrations. Very good. Spine faintly rubbed, else tight and internally near fine. Handsome second printing of this authoritative 1941 study, Volume II of the Illinois State Museum's "Popular Science Series." This sharp copy bears the ownership signature (bold, in full, in blue ink) on front flyleaf of Adlai E. Stevenson (1900-65), who became governor of Illinois several years later and in 1952 and 1956 was the Democratic candidate for president of the U.S. and later U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Stevenson was an avid outdoorsman who liked nothing better than pheasant hunting and other outdoorsy activities in the countryside around his famed Libertyville farm--making it not surprising that he would own and use a guide book such as Eifert's.
