They used a little green apple for a ball and a long carrot for a bat, and every time the batter hit the apple he'd bite a piece off the carrot. Wasn't that funny? I never saw a baseball player do that, did you? Well, just as Billy Bunny came to the field the rabbit who was at the bat hit a long fly way out beyond the fielders, and what do you think Billy Bunny did? Why, he hopped right under that green apple ball just as it was coming down and caught it as nicely as you please. And then he threw it to the catcher, who tagged a little rabbit just as he was going to touch the home, plate for a run. And didn't everybody clap paws and thump on the ground? Well, I guess they did. Prof. Crow and the Jay Bird, who were sitting on the Old Snake Fence, crowed and jayed, if that's the was hopping way to explain the sounds they made, and old Uncle Bullfrog went dunk, dunk, dunity dunk! I'm sure all the little people of the Friendly Forest and Pleasant Meadow must have been watching that exciting game of ball. There was Squirrel Nutcracker with his family and Timmy Chipmunk, too.
