Februar 2012 fand in der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek Munchen im Rahmen eines von der DFG geforderten Projekts eine Fachtagung zu Blockbuchern des 15. Jahrhunderts statt. Das von Bettina Wagner herausgegebene Themenheft von BuW prasentiert elf der vierzehn Vortrage, die durch eine zusatzliche Darstellung zum Einsatz von Infrarot-Technik zur Dokumentation von Wasserzeichen aus Blockbuchern erganzt wird. Die Beitrage widmen sich gleichermassen der Materialitat dieser ausserst seltenen xylographischen Drucke wie ihren Inhalten. Im ersten Themenblock werden Fragen in Bezug auf Papier, Druckfarbe und Einbande der Blockbucher behandelt und neue Analysemethoden erlautert. Der zweite Themenblock enthalt Studien zu einzelnen Werken, die im 15. Jahrhundert in Form von Holztafeldrucken Verbreitung fanden. Neben Blockbuchern, die biblisches Wissen vermitteln oder der Verwendung in der religiosen Praxis dienten, stehen insbesondere Texte der pragmatischen Schriftlichkeit im Blickpunkt, die in der Blockbuchforschung bisher eine eher untergeordnete Rolle gespielt haben. Der Tagungsband prasentiert so zum einen erste Ergebnisse des DFG-geforderten Projekts, weitet aber andererseits auch die Perspektive daruber hinaus auf Blockbucher aus, die nicht Gegenstand des Projekts sind.
