Seller's Description:
Fair. [Biblia Germanica, Lutheran Bible] Thick folio, 43 cm. Bound in contemporary embossed pigskin. Front hinge cracked, held by later leather straps. Title in red and black. Additional engraved title page by Jakob von Sandrart. 486, 526, 127, 414 pages. Numerous maps and plates, some double page. The maps depict the Mediterranean, Canaan, the Near East, the itinerary from Egypt to the Promised Land and the world (hemispheres). Includes a bird's eye view plan of Jerusalem. Minor (mostly marginal) foxing. See BMC Bible I, 197 (ed. 1668). This is the second Frankfurt edition of the large-format Toussain or Tossanus Bible, with extensive glossary and commentary by the reformed Heidelberg theologian Paul Toussain (1572-1634). Not in Darlow & Moule. Lacking brass bosses, corner pieces, catches, and clasps. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.
