Best of Contemporary Jazz, Vol. 1 is a reasonably enjoyable smooth jazz collection, considering its budget price. The disc is balanced between adventurous, improvisatory musicians like Larry Carlton and Herbie Hancock, and musicians that just like to work a groove, like Chuck Loeb, Doug Cameron and Art of Sax. Much of this will be too lightweight for serious jazz fans, but anyone who enjoys smooth jazz radio should like this. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
