Though by no means definitive, the first volume in BMG's multi-part, budget-line overview of the big band sound of the 1940s is still a good introduction to the swing era -- while the omission of liner notes is endlessly frustrating, the overall sound quality is strong, and perennials like Glenn Miller's "Tuxedo Junction," Xavier Cugat's "The Breeze and I" and Tommy Dorsey's "Trade Winds" never go out of style. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
