Tattles and Tidbits
'Behind The Music' reminds me of listening to Casey Kasem tell stories --some familiar, most not--about the artists and songs on his American Top 40 show in the 1970s. However, Casey never told this many stories! Bob Shannon and John Javna make the rock 'n' roll we grew up with fun again. The authors tell about:
--who did--or maybe in some cases didn't--write classic songs;
--who had recorded the original versions of classic songs;
--"accidental" hits that might never have been recorded, played or heard;
--hits translated form other languages or melodies borrowed from other countries; and
--so much more.
The book is a breezy, light-hearted look at the first 30 years of rock 'n' roll and the artists who wrote and sang it. A great read, whether on the beach or in the bath.
