Seller's Description:
Good. Size: 8x5x0; The scarce first edition. Previous owner name. Royal Robbins' accomplishments as rock climber and adventurer are legendary. An early advocate of boltless, pitonless clean climbing, he did much to transform the climbing culture to minimize the human impact on the vertical wilderness and protect its natural features. As a rock-climbing pioneer, he broke through existing standards to create wholly new skill and difficulty levels. In the 50's, 60's and into the 70's, Robbins established one daring new climb after another, among them many revered classics on Yosemite's Half Dome and El Capitan. Basic Rockcraft, first published in 1971, helped introduce and educate a new generation of climbers. By instructing climbers in the latest techniques of using nuts and hexes, the books bolstered a new ethic for clean climbing that didn't rely on hammered pitons and thus minimized scarring the rock.

If you are new to climbing this is a must read for anyone. Twenty-nine years ago give or take a year, this book was my climbing bible along with "Advanced Rockcraft". Add "Ropes, knots and slings for Climbers" by Walt Wheelock and also "Learning to Rock Climb" by Michael Loughman and you have all you need to work up to a class A Rock-Jock. All the basic necessary technique is covered in these books.
