In I912 E. Henry Wemme purchased the above named company for $5, 400, Just a year before his death on 18 Dec. 1914, he bequeathed the Barlow Road to his attorney George W. Joseph. He and his wife donatead the Barlow Road to the people of the state of Oregon the beauties and grandeur of Mount Hood, for the use, benefit and pleasure of all forever. Listing of toll gate keepers, on the 9th of December 1845, Samuel K. Baralow petitioned the Provisional Governmentof the Oregon Territory located in Oregon City for a charter to build a wagon raod from the "Dalis Mission to Valley of Clackamus." Problems confrontiing the Oregon emigrants was to find an alternate route to the Willamette Valley other than by going down the Columbia River on rafts, which was not only costly but also dangerous.
