The title reminds us of the fun kids have walking barefoot and with an open heart. The author found inspiration in Marielena. The loving storyteller inspired the little immigrant girl to rise above poverty, prejudice, and hopelessness. She was the candle in her dark world. Her soft touch and stories helped her view the world in a new way. It is the story of overcoming and finding the good in bad conditions. A must read and an inspiration to all.

BAREFOOT HEART IS STUNNING!
I was very surprised by how good this book is! I don't usually like to read this sort of genre, but this book took me in. I loved the vivid details and colorful words that the author used. I also admired her openness in telling very personal feelings and moments within her childhood. Her ability to remember some of the most insignificant things like smells or actual visions were amazing. By the end of the book you are able to understand a lot of her feelings because you feel like you grew up with her throughout the story. This is definitely a book to read!
