Reprinted from Ball's manuscript written when he was 80 years old. His early life is an intimate picture of the New Hampshire family with a large family. In 1832, he joined Capt. Wyetg on a trip to Oregon, Then he becam a passenger on a whaling vessel. In 1836 he helped settle Western Michigan. After the Civil War, he journeyed south and eventually traveled to Europe.
