Wesentlich schien mir, dasz dieselbe reichlich genug ausfiele, um wenigstens das bed???rfniss eines halhj abrigan curses zu decken. Im ???brigen war ich der ansicht, lieber auf wenig abschnitte mich zu be schr???nken und darunter einen vollst???ndig, wie er uns erhalten ist, mit zu teilen als mich nach vielerlei kleinem proben aus den gesamten gothischen ???berresten um zu sehen. Ich habe mich also an die Illfila'sche bibel???hersetzung gehalten, und zwar vorzugsweise an die evangelien. Unter ihnen habe ich das von Marcus unverk???rzt gegeben. Seine einfachheit und der gluckliche zufall dasz es so wenig vwst???mmelt ist sprachen f???r diese bevorzugung. Darum steht es auch mit recht voran. Die andere kleinere h???lfte der auswahl enth???lt was aus den ???brigen evangelien aus vers chiedenen briefen aus den duri tigen fragmenten des alten testaments erw???nscht oder sonst beachtenswert schien. Es sind teils ganze capitel teils eine gr ???szere oder kleinere anzahl von versen. Was die gram matik und das w???rterbuch betrifft, so haben sie keinen andern zweck als dasz sie die n???chsten und n???tigsten bed???rfnisse des sch???lers befriedigen und gemeinschaftlich mit dem text ihm als bequemes elementarbuch beim ersten unterricht im gothi schen dienen sollen. Gelehrte und ausf???hrliche darstellungen w???ren hier unpaszend gewesen uni m???szen in den bedeutenden Werken von Grimm L???he und Schulze gesucht werden.
