This does not smooth over the serverity of loss, yet directs the view on eternity as the end of our earthly wanderings. The believer anticipates already in its hope what will be fulfilled in the beatific vision of God. Gratitude ist expressed in the mourning sermons for what was given to the mourners by the life that ended and what can now become their internal possession through their remembrance. At the same time Bultmann forgoes an adjudication, since this is exclusively entitled to God. It is from God's grace that death turns to be the gate into life.
